Hands on Therapy
All our therapists are very “hands on” and we have all done further training in manual therapy. Due to your injury and dysfunction, muscles and tissues will often tighten, this can generate pain secondary to the injury and limit your recovery. We are able to gently mobilise or manipulate (crack) your joints if we think it necessary and will always explain to you what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. We aim to have you walking out feeling better than when you walked in, every time!
At Central Lakes Physio we practice western medical acupuncture and trigger point (dry) needling. This is based on the ancient traditional Chinese acupuncture but we choose our points based more on nerve supply than energy meridians. Western medical acupuncture has clinical research backing it up and is scientifically proven to help relieve pain and assist recovery. We know that some people really don’t like needles, that’s fine, we have plenty of other tools we can use if you’d rather not have acupuncture.
We want you to understand why you’re body is giving you problems, if you understand then you can help us fix it. We will always take the time to explain to you what our diagnosis is and why we are using the treatments we are using. Feel free to ask us questions, no question is ever silly!
Gym Based Rehabilitation
We have access to gym equipment at Pro-active Gym to show you the correct technique and form when completing your exercises and work closely with the excellent trainers there. At Central Lakes Physio understand that it is important to continue to train when you have an injury. We believe in modifying your activity wherever possible, not stopping it!
Pilates is a form of exercise that is used as part of your physio treatments. Itblends excellently with Physiotherapy as it incorporates breathing, muscle control, movement awareness, stretching, strengthening and balance. With regular practice, you will notice many positive changes in your body such as better posture, increased flexibility, less pain, increased muscle tone and better breathing. We have an extensive Pilates Studio allowing you the option of doing one on one sessions as part of your rehab and progressing onto either mat or studio classes as required.
Home Exercise Programmes
We all want a quick-fix, but most of the time this doesn’t exist and we need you to put some effort into your recovery too. We will however, make this as easy as possible for you by emailing or printing you out a home exercise programme that has written instructions, pictures and even videos! No-one wants to be doing their physio exercises all day, so we promise to make your programme as short and succinct, but maximally effective, as we can.
